“Journaling is like whispering to one’s self and listening at the same time.” – Mina Murray
The colour, texture and pattern throughout this journal is designed to capture the moods that teenagers experience – a mood journal.
A number of people have come together to allow girls to participate in the creation of a unique product and bring it to market.
We invited girls to be part of “The Design Team.” Fifteen girls took the opportunity and worked with us and our lead designer Renee Rogers over 6 months. We use #slack to coordinate communication between the team. This way the girls also gained experience using a collaboration tool used in business.
The girls were integral to the design, giving us feedback on colour, content and cover. We would have taken it in a different direction on a number of occasions if not for their feedback.
The Design Team Members (alphabetical): Sophia Anagnostou, India Cleeve, Molly Cleeve, Lexi Dawson, Sarah and Eliza Curtis, Siobhan Fearon, Prisha Gupte, Josie Kirby, Jessie McMurray, Annabel and Sarah Ott, Darian Rodriguez, Amelia Thompson, Lily Thorne and Isobel Weitemeyer.
We are giving the girls an opportunity to participate in the promotion of the journal and earn pocket money from it. We created a similar experience with our last project “Cookbook” but it was more manual due to all the girls being local. Some of the girls nailed it. We interviewed them, others appeared in national and local newspapers, cooked their recipe in front of 100s of people on stage and set up stalls in local markets to sell the book.
This time those involved are across the globe so we have created a Profit Share Program via an Affiliate Link. This way girls from anywhere can earn pocket money by promoting the journal with their individualised link. It is a method that individuals and business around the world use to earn recurring revenue from other people’s products and services they trust. Again it is a real world experience the girls are getting exposed to while in a safe environment.
Not only has DBFLG collaborated with girls during the Design and Marketing phase of bringing a product to market, it has also teamed up with Leaders in Heels to handle the production and distribution.
Kasia Gospos and her team at LIH, have a wealth of experience and relationships in the production and delivery of award winning stationery for women. Kasia’s customers were asking for something for girls – for their daughters. Partnering with DBFLG was a match made in heaven.
The two founders Jane Harbison and Kasia Gospos met on Instagram and were immediately excited about the potential of working together. It took about 18 months to bring this beautiful Journal for Girls to life and into your homes.

DON’T MISS OUT!
Don’t know where to start with Journaling? Here are some ideas.
We live in a world where kids are anxious about an uncertain future. They don’t know what they want to do or who they want to be.
We use creativity to teach the creative process. The creative process is a clever problem solving tool, which takes the anxiety out of not knowing.
To be successful in the world, it is important to combine two things
1) what you love doing and
2) what you are good at.
We use creativity to make the exploration and discovery of what you love and do, fun.
Once you know this and you have a process to see possibilities and seize opportunities, it is then important to put yourself in the presence of the right people and in the right place to make your dreams happen.
We cannot reach everyone through our workshops and events, so we wanted to create an inspiring ‘mobile space’ in the shape of a Journal for Girls. It is a place to practice creativity in your own time and place. There are no inspirational quotes, lists or to-dos. Just a blank canvas, spattered with unique design and bursts of colour – some bold some subtle.
Let your mood take you to a new page.
